Your study data should stay simple, safe, and useful.
This Privacy Policy explains how AomoriYuki: Japanese Subtitle Translator handles data when you use the extension, dashboard, and connected study features.
What data we collect
AomoriYuki only collects data that is needed to provide its Japanese-learning features and account sync.
- Email address and basic account/session data when you sign in.
- Your saved words, word status, and related study counters such as seen or hover counts.
- Your settings, such as subtitle appearance, translation language, theme, and furigana preferences.
- Subtitle text and related page content from supported YouTube watch pages, only as needed to power the learning experience.
How we use that data
- To show furigana, word lookup results, sentence translations, and study overlays on YouTube.
- To save and sync your words, settings, and learning progress between the extension and dashboard.
- To display your word list, statistics, and preferences inside the AomoriYuki dashboard.
- To keep the extension working reliably across supported pages and sessions.
What permissions and external services are used
The extension asks only for permissions and hosts that support its single purpose: helping users study Japanese on YouTube.
- storage: saves your local settings and extension state.
- YouTube access: reads supported subtitle/page content so the learning overlay can work on watch pages.
- Supabase: stores authenticated user settings, words, and synced progress.
- Dictionary and translation services: used to fetch word meanings, translations, and JLPT-related study data.
What we do not do with your data
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
- We do not use your data to build credit profiles or for lending-related purposes.
- We do not transfer your data to third parties for purposes unrelated to the extension’s study features.
Data retention and control
Your synced study data stays associated with your AomoriYuki account so your progress can remain available across sessions. Local settings may also be stored in your browser so the extension can remember your preferred experience.
If you no longer want to use the service, you can stop using the extension, sign out, or contact support to request help with account-related questions.
